The ‘Three Feathers’ identify Welsh loyalty to the English Princes for Wales, this so called ‘Welsh symbol’ was grovelingly adopted by the Ancient Society of Britons 1715 founded by the London Welsh on a St David’s Day with English Princess for Wales present to hear the loyal toasts. This was ‘Uncle taffy’ at his most blatent British best showing that ‘Taffy’ was more loyal than the Scots with their first Jacobite Rebellion of 1715. Later Yr Cymmrodorion in 1756 adopted same to show their loyalty to the English Crown following Scots Stuart Jacobite Rebellions of 1745.
Interesting to note is fact that in 1746 not only was Welsh Jacobite
David Morgan brutally executed but that the English Parliament passed
legislation that would make the 1536 ‘Act of Annexation’ a greater reality as
in all legislation ‘England’ was also to include and mean Wales. There was
another reason for the London Welsh Business and Cultural Patriots to favour
the ‘Three Feathers’ considering such symbol as an ideal defensive icon to make
the English of the time think twice about Taffy and Goat Jokes and other racist
jibes. Post 1848 the rising respectable Welsh Bourgeoisie and native capitalist
class would see it remained very much opportune to retain the ‘Three Feathers’
to take advantage of being bed fellows with England in an expanding British
Empire out of which they would of ensure to make themselves far more loyal than
the rebellious Catholic Irish.
